There are actually two (and sometimes even more than two!) types of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) that you may come across during your study of Project Management. While from the PMP exam perspective, knowing whatever that we have already discussed about WBS is sufficient, a little extra knowledge never hurt anyone!
So the two types of WBS are,
1. Deliverables Oriented
You may come across several other names for this like – Entity Oriented, Noun Oriented or Product Oriented WBS. Since this is based around the product it is typically used by Engg Managers
2. Phase Oriented
The other names for this that you might come across are – Activity or Task Oriented, Verb Oriented or Process Oriented WBS. This one is typically used by Project Managers
Do refer to the video above for individual examples
That being said, there is no hard and fast rule for the usage of WBS and you should ideally follow the type of WBS that is already in practice within your organization.
